As a traditional father from a Roma/Turkish family in northern Bulgaria, 46-year-old Jovan* had never experienced meaningful communication with his own parents while growing up. He barely knew his father, despite living under the same roof. Now, a father of seven himself—four married, and three still at home—Jovan followed the same model of parenting based on virtually no communication with his children.
Everything changed after a KIDStory workshop though! It was there that he was taught things he had never heard before including how to raise children spiritually and communicate with them. This new perspective moved Jovan deeply. For the first time, he cried in front of his wife and children, realizing the impact of his silence.
Determined to change, he gathered his family.
Jovan shared, “I took the KIDStory@Home materials and for the first time in the history of our family, I told them the Bible story. It was strange at first because we were used to the pastor telling us the Bible stories in the church and now we brought the church home.”
Soon, he and his wife turned their home into a StoryClub, telling Bible stories and praying with their children twice a week. “And then something amazing happened!” Jovan exclaimed.
Their kids shared about it with friends, and soon neighbors became interested. Jovan brought others into their home and also showed them how to use KIDStory! As a result, four more families in their neighborhood and 25 in their church community, started StoryClubs in their homes, too!
Jovan praises God for transforming their home into a place of worship.
