HOPE Found Him:

An Encounter of Grace and New Beginnings

Sometimes, Hope-FULL moments are quiet and unforeseenwhen dignity is restored, hearts begin to soften, and hope takes root.

This was the case in a community of Panama, where we partner with a local school.  Here, a mother’s quiet strength has been carrying her family through incredibly difficult circumstances. For a year, she faithfully worked at the school without a salary. Her request was simple: food for her seven children.

When OneMeal began being shared at the school, everything changed. What had been a daily struggle for survival became a path toward stability. Today, she is able to provide nutritious meals for her family while also earning an income, restoring both provision and dignity.

It wasn’t until recently though that a team of partner volunteers joined us in this community to Share HOPE through FOOD, PLAY, and STORY. Together, they created space for children to experience joy, care, and the love of God in tangible ways.

In an unanticipated detour, it was during their time there that a young boy, about ten years old, took something that didn’t belong to him.

Sadly, as with many children in impoverished circumstances, the young boy had faced significant challenges in his young life. Over the past year, he had often run away from home, missing school and burdening his mother’s heart. Those close to him shared of his emotional detachment – struggling in ways that were difficult to reach.

The following day he returned with his mother. With a contrite courage, he confessed to his poor choice and returned the item.

What he encountered in response though was not shame, but grace.

A team member knelt down, looked him in the eyes, and gently affirmed, “I forgive you.” She embraced him, spoke words of life and identity over him, and encouraged both him and his mother.

That moment opened the door for something more. The boy heard about the love and forgiveness of Jesus and chose to respond. That same morning, he prayed and opened his heart to Christ.

Beautifully, the newly planted seed of hope was watered further that day during a STORYClub gathering where children heard the story of Jesus washing His disciples’ feet—a picture of love, humility, and grace. To demonstrate the heart of the story, the team began washing the children’s feet.

When it was his turn, this young boy, who had struggled to show emotion for so long, began to tear up. As he realized what was being done for him, something shifted. He was, once again, not just hearing about grace, but experiencing it.

To continue showing care in a tangible way, the team also provided shoes for all the children after noticing them playing barefoot on rough, rocky ground the day before.

The impact was immediate.  Felt.  Transformative.  And the ripple effect didn’t stop there.  Since then, his mother has shared her desire to grow deeper in God’s Word and lead her family forward in this new hope.

Because of your partnership to SHARE HOPE, families are being nourished, dignity is being restored, and hearts are encountering the love of Jesus.
