Purpose and Possibility In PLAY

At KIDS AROUND THE WORLD, we’ve always believed a playground is about far more than swings and slides. It’s a place where hope can grow, imaginations flourish, and communities come together. Today, we’re excited to share a new chapter in that mission; one that expands not only where we serve, but how we serve.

As we deepen our impact in Ecuador, Uganda, Panama, and the Dominican Republic, we’re intentionally investing in something even greater than playgrounds: people.
By redirecting select donated playground equipment from our Rockford, Illinois warehouse to in-country workshops, we’re creating meaningful employment opportunities and empowering skilled local teams to restore each playground with remarkable care, craftsmanship, and pride.

Every playground is transformed through a meticulous restoration process from deep cleaning and fresh paint to welding, fabrication, and structural improvements. The result is a safe, vibrant play space ready to bring joy to children—many of whom have never experienced the wonder of a playground before.
But the real transformation goes beyond the equipment—it is found in the people restoring it!

This model creates dignified employment, develops valuable skills, and strengthens local economies. Our in-country teams have been trained and mentored by our U.S.-based staff, equipping them with the expertise and confidence to take ownership of this work. Watching that ownership grow has come with great joy! These teams aren’t simply restoring playgrounds but investing their talents, creativity, and hearts into the children and families of their own communities.

This is sustainability in its fullest sense. We’re expanding the reach of PLAY by giving playgrounds a second life and placing opportunity and leadership into local hands. More than places to play, we’re building stronger communities and lasting hope.
With great purpose and possibility, this builds into a bigger vision.
