When the threat of ISIS became a reality and their momentum quickly began to shift toward the Nineveh plains, an entire congregation left together. 300 families, grabbed just the essentials, with no idea where they would find shelter, but trusting God to place His hand of protection over them. For more than two years the congregation moved from city to city and town to town, finding provision and support from the Body of Christ. Local churches and response ministries like Samaritan’s Purse stepped into the gap and ensured that families were well carried for. When they were finally told they could return they did, believing that they could be salt and light once again in their community. Despite finding their church vandalized and damaged, the preschool they once ran totally destroyed, and many of their homes looted…they never wavered in their true hope. God had carried them through this and would carry them far beyond. Their reopened community sits between a Muslim mosque and a Yazidi Temple. They maintain it as a place for anyone to come and be welcome. AND NOW…there’s a new reason to step inside those doors for the children of this community!
